The Peaceful Porch began as a calling on my heart — a way to connect with and support others walking through difficult seasons, much like the one Jake and I had just come through ourselves.
As a young family, we were faced with the unimaginable — a cancer diagnosis that shook our world. In the middle of fear and uncertainty, candles became more than just wax and wicks. They became light in dark places. They became comfort. They became ministry.
What started as a small, home-based business quickly grew. As people began purchasing our candles, we were also able to give back and help others in need. That season of purpose — serving, praying, showing up — was one of the most meaningful times of my life.
With the support of friends and fellow small business owners, we grew to 100 wholesale accounts. Then 200. Then nearly 400. I was deeply grateful. It was a dream in many ways.
But somewhere along the way, something shifted.
While the growth was a blessing, I began to feel pulled away from the heart of why The Peaceful Porch began. I didn’t just want to write checks to help people — I wanted to sit with them. Pray with them. Be present in their hardest moments. As the company expanded, so did the stress. The demands, the responsibilities, the payroll, the expenses — they began to outweigh the peace.
Then COVID swept through and took more than half of our wholesalers. It was heartbreaking to watch so many small businesses close their doors. But in the quiet that followed, I began to see more clearly. The Peaceful Porch had grown larger than life for me. I found myself worrying more and enjoying the mission less.
There were so many employees depending on a paycheck. So many obligations tied to the size we had become. I was exhausted — physically, emotionally, spiritually.
Unfortunately, The Peaceful Porch was no longer bringing the peace I so desperately needed.
Last year brought me to a breaking point. My mom battled stage 4 breast cancer. My dad underwent open-heart surgery. We welcomed our third grandchild while I was away traveling. Six shows in six different states over six consecutive weekends pushed my body further than it could go. After nearly ten years of nonstop growth, my body finally forced me to stop.
Over the past six months, I’ve learned so much about slowing down. About caring for my health. About listening when God whispers instead of waiting until He has to shout.
Last June, our daughter opened a small café, and working alongside her has been one of the sweetest blessings. Abbi has since graduated high school and will begin college this fall to pursue a nursing degree. I am so incredibly proud of her and want to be fully present to support her — especially with the café while she is in school.
So, with much prayer and reflection, I want to share this:
The Peaceful Porch will no longer offer wholesale candles.
We will continue our retail presence online and keep our storefront shelves filled with the products you love. But this reset will allow me to return to the heart of why we began — connection, community, and peace.
I’m looking forward to baking fresh bread, tending my garden, cooking for family and friends, and truly being present with our growing family. I want The Peaceful Porch to once again reflect the peace in its name — not just for others, but for me as well.
Thank you for walking this journey with us. Thank you for your love, your support, and your understanding as we step into this new season.
With gratitude and hope,
Wendy Moore
